Usually ships in 24 hours | | | "GET IT IN A NEW YORK MINUTE" | | I have BOTH Live at Leeds and Isle Of Wight, and I strongly recommend getting this CD, it is worth every penny. There are so many great songs on it" "You Better You Bet" (My favorite Who song), "Won`t Get Fooled Again", "Summertime Blues", "Baba O Riley", "Who Are You", "My Wife", "Bargain" to name a few. I will admit, Bryan Adams singing "Behind Blue Eyes" is a low point, but, they avoided some of their worst songs such as "Eminence Front" and "Boris The Spider". It amazes me that people can write here, and actually give ANYTHING by The Who 1 star, these have to be people who have nothing better than to be negative. Obviously THE WHO cannot rock like they used to (Pete and Roger are in their SIXTIES), but I would take that over the Outkast`s, Paulina Rubio`s, and Madonna`s of today. I saw THE WHO last year at Jones Beach (In Long Island, New York) and Pete really rocked that night, and NONE of today`s rock ACTS (As opposed to the serious GROUPS, we used to have Zeppelin, Beatles etc), can even tune Pete`s guitar, or sing like Roger, people should appreciate what THE WHO is doing today, because they are the LAST GREAT ROCK GROUP left (Even though it is just Pete and Roger). I would very strongly getting this CD "IN A NEW YORK MINUTE", because I think with the execption of "For The Last Time, Live From The Houston Astrodome" (George Strait), it is the BEST live CD this decade. | | | | Save your money and get the DVD version instead. | | I had high hopes for this CD (and the SACD version that was released). With the exception of some of the "special guests" that really shouldn`t be there, and were clearly there only for the "face time" and to serve their egos (Learn the dang lyrics, Bryan Adams! Pete corrected you at LEAST twice during rehearsal!), this was a really good performance that was wonderfully recorded. Unfortunately, the mix is pretty messed up on both versions, and makes the band sound pretty bad. This may not be noticeable to a casual listener, but anyone who is familiar with the DVD version of this same show will know what I`m saying. The DVD sounds so much better. Why that mix wasn`t used for the audio releases, I`ll never understand! The only redeeming value here is the bonus disc, which contains songs not on the DVD. However, the bonus disc alone isn`t worth the cost of this release. With luck, maybe it`ll be reissued someday with good sound, but I wouldn`t bet on it. | | | | Who`s Final Live CD? | | With the death of John Entwistle, and the arrest and personal problems of Pete Townshend, this may very well be the last live album of The Who. This three CD live set does have some shortcomings. The sound is somewhat compressed, although nothing to seriously complain about. Pete rambles on a bit too long when introducing some songs, and at one point shouts an expletive at a heckler! Guest stars usually contribute backing vocals, so it`s disconcerting to hear Bryan Adams do the lead vocals on "Behind Blue Eyes," as well as hear Eddie Vedder sing the obscure Who song "I`m One." A particular low point of the concert occurs when Kelly Jones, not to be confused with former Who drummer Kenny Jones, sings the song "Substitute." On the plus side, the song selection is superb. Time-wise, the three CDs add up to a total of two and a half hours of music. The extended versions of "Magic Bus" and "Won`t Get Fooled Again" recall the glory days of the band. It`s also great to hear John Entwistle sing "My Wife," as well as play some outstanding bass guitar solos during the songs "5:15" and "My Generation." The bonus CD of songs recorded at John Entwistle`s final live appearance are a welcome addition. All in all, it`s not an essential addition to your Who collection, but it`s also not as bad as some reviews would lead you to believe. | | | -- zzzz |
